This weekend I said goodbye to my old fashion grass clippers and hello to a brand new lawn mower! After last weekend where the clippers didn’t work since the grass was too long (whoops) and I had to weed whack the entire back yard while my neighbor watched from his deck, I decided it was time for the real deal.  So here she is….all red and shiny.  And somehow I manage to convince Chris to do some of the mowing too :).

Back in the fall I decided to plant tulip bulbs. I read the instructions over and over to make sure I had everything right, the depth of the bulb, the peat moss, and the expected bloom date. I spent all morning planting all 89 bulbs into my little garden. Later that day, I called home to brag about my expected flowers. Mom said, “That’ll be pretty. Did you plant them right side up?” I replied with a laugh, and then “um….are you serious?” As it turned out I planted half the tulips upside down – can you believe they don’t mention this on the instructions? However as you can see, the little guys made their way to the sunshine after all!

Happy Spring?

The weather was calling for BBQ chicken, and boy was I hungry after a long day of work. However, to my surprise someone had taken up residence in my grill!  These poor birds have spent hours building up a little home and I spent only a few minutes crushing their dreams by throwing the nest in the trash. However, these birds are relentless, each day when I come home from work there is a bigger and bigger nest in the grill. I thought when they saw some chicken cooking on the grill they’d get scared off seeing their cousins all slathered in BBQ sauce.  So the battle against the birds continues….

Avoiding the Monkey Trap…

The latest addition to the house is a new TV stand, doesn’t it look great!  I barely managed to get the box out of the trunk of the car (thank goodness for the folding back seat). The box was way too heavy to get up the stairs on my own so I left it in the garage for the night thinking that next time someone was over they could help me carry it upstairs.

The next morning I had an idea, I could open the box and take out each part one by one and carry it upstairs – Brilliant!  So I spent the afternoon putting the TV stand together. However, little did I know that with this epiphany I barely avoided the “monkey trap”.  As I was boasting to a friend of my brilliance he commented that I was smarter than a monkey.  For those of you who don’t see the connection between a TV stand and the fun furry jungle creature, here you go…When attempting to catch a monkey, peanuts are put in a small jar and when the monkey reaches in for a fist full he can’t get his hand out of the jar. He will refuse to let go of the fistful of peanuts and will walk around with his hand stuck in the jar instead of removing one peanut at a time.

So there you have it – I’m officially smarter than a monkey!

Mom braved the winter weather advisory and drove down to hang out with me for the day in Leesburg, the 4 and 1/2 hour trip took over 7 hours – Yikes! I’m so glad she came because not only did we have a fun visit but she also brought down an early birthday present for me – a Kitchen Aid Mixer! I love it and have been baking up a storm ever since.

We had a great day of shopping- hitting up the outlets, the antique shops, and of course Costco where mom bought me a wreath and pointsetta for a little more christmas spirit. Thanks mom and dad!

Lighting the way to 30…

With the big 30 fast approaching it seemed a good idea to figure out a few ways to look a little younger….what better way to do that than dimming the lights? So today, I installed a dimmer in the kitchen. I will admit the exposed wires popping out of the wall were a little intimidating but with my little flowered screw driver I had the whole thing put together pretty quickly.

Although I did turn off the power at the circuit breaker (don’t worry dad) I was still nervous to flip the switch. In an effort of safety I threw on my sunglasses and an oven mitt for the big “ta-da”. And what do u know….I look 24 again!

Stairs for Chairs?

With winter on its way I figured it was time to bring the deck furniture inside. However, slight problem…the furniture wasn’t fitting through the sliding glass door. I tried to squeeze and twist it every which way but no luck. I had assembled the furniture outside and never thought twice about checking to make sure I could bring it back in, whoops!

Why not just walk it down the stairs, well funny thing…there aren’t any on the deck! So I attempted the next best thing, I tied a rope to each chair and lowered them down one by one. Didn’t need to hit the gym that day since I was running down the stairs to untie the chair and then back up again to lower the next one. I’m sure the neighbors were wondering what the heck I was doing. Oh no! Am I “the crazy lady at the end of the block”!?!?!?

How did that get there?

Pottery Barn outlet was having a rug sale so Sara and I decided to take a look. We found one that we thought would look great and had it loaded into my car. Unsure of how we’d get it into the house since Sara is 5 months pregnant and is not allowed to lift anything, I  figured I’d give it a shot. She went to open the front door and as soon as she opened it there I was holding the 8×10 wool rug. And it was heavy! So as soon as the door was open i attempted to run up the stairs with it. Unfortunately, I didn’t angle it exactly right and the rug hit the stairs and bounced me back a couple feet. Very comical! The rug made it up the stairs and just as we assumed….it looks fabulous!
